I recently learned about different theories of development.  Children's growth and development can be described from several points of view.  It is important that teachers know and understand the different theories and determine what they believe is best for their classroom.  This will help them understand their students better and the best ways to teach them.  The people behind the theories differ in what they believe about children's development.  When planning programs what will be beneficial to children, teachers should think about the theories and how they differ depending on the theorist's beliefs about children's development.

One of the many theories of development is Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences Theory.  I have learned about this theory multiple times in the past.  However, it was great to have the opportunity to study this theory again, considering the effect it can have in the classroom.  There are nine intelligences in this theory.  These intelligences are: linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, naturalist, and existentialist.  This theory is significant in terms of early childhood teachers.  When teachers understand the multiple intelligences, it will change the way that they teach.  Teachers should look for learning strengths in all children.  They should understand that children all learn differently and have different strengths.  This will allow them to differentiate lessons to accommodate each learning style.  As a result, children will know that each of their abilities can be honored.

I think that it is so important that children feel recognized in the classroom.  They need to feel as if they are important.  One way teachers can do this is by applying multiple intelligences theory in the classroom.  I also think that Gardner's theory is interesting.  There is much that can be learned from this theory.  What about you?  What are your thoughts on this theory?  Please feel free to share below!

After studying about Gardner's theory, I logged onto ToonDoo to create my own cartoon to explain the theory.  ToonDoo is a site that allows users to create cartoons very quickly.  There are many great features of ToonDoo, and it is a very user-friendly site.  I like how users have the option to choose from a cartoon character on the site or create a new one.  I had the freedom to create my characters exactly how I wanted them t  ToonDoo can be very beneficial in and for the classroom.  If you do not have your own ToonDoo account, I would recommend making one!  It is free to join and the possibilities are endless!  Click here to make your own account.
